A St. Louis native, he studied with Ray Charles band alumnus Wayne Coniglio and earned his master’s degree from DePaul University, where he studied with Tom Matta, Dana Hall, Tim Coffman, Chad McCullough, and Scott Burns. Andrew is a regular member of the Tom Garling Jazz Orchestra, Blueshift Big Band, Jazz for Chicago Big Band (led by Roger Ingram), Mulligan Mosaics (led by Ted Hogarth), the Sam Pilnick Nonet, and the Heisenberg Uncertainty Players, and is a top-call sub with leading Chicago ensembles including the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, the Bob Lark Alumni Big Band and New Nostalgia (led by Neil Carson). Andrew leads two original music focused ensembles, Interlace Sextet, a collaborative ensemble with Chicago saxophonist Andy Schlinder, inspired by the Art Blakey and Jazz Messengers tradition, and leads the Andrew Meyer Quintet, which focuses on his original compositions and arrangements. His ensembles have performed and held residencies at many notable venues including Andy’s Jazz Club, The Green Mill, Merriman’s Playhouse (South Bend, IN) Fulton Street Collective, Clara and Jazz St. Louis.
